I just received my first TSU9400 yesterday, and I was very surprised to notice that the screen seems to be very washed out.

I tried adjusting the brightness and that didn't seem to work. However, holding the remote at a much more vertical angle helped to some degree.

I loaded the same pcf and xcf onto a 7500 and the 9400 and the 7500 screen looked so much better.

Has anyone else noticed this? Do I have a bad sample?

Could depend on what graphics you are using. Their Gallery graphics look very good. My old bitmaps looked good too.

Probably a bad sample?

Dawn,

I'd exchange it as the graphics should have no effect.

Thanks Lyndel.

Looks like it's going back to the distributor tomorrow.

I have to say I was quite disappointed with the 9400's screen quality; the colors seem slightly muted/dull, and the pixels don't look "solid," meaning it has a dithered appearance. I haven't finished my XCF, but when I do, I'll try it with my new graphics, but the default graphics look decidedly UNimpressive on this unit.

My 9400 screen seems quite bright and resolving with both demo XCF and imported PCF. Dumb obvious idea but have you (David) checked screen brightness (hold backlit and press page up or down)?

My first TSU9400 screen is very nice, good color/clarity and in a darkened room, could burn your eyes out with the brightness!

I see no issues what-so-ever.

Dave,

Mine was definitely defective. New one looks fine. But it's something we should all keep our eyes open for.

My 9400 looks absolutely perfect. In fact it is better than I expected.

My new one looks great as well. Smaller, but much better display than the 7500.

I have the TSU 7500 and am looking i nto the 9400. Can you elaborate on what you mean by "much better"?

I'm having the same washed out screen issue on my 2nd 9400. It looks very poor compared to the 7000 I own.

Adjusting the brightness doesn't help either. It looks slightly better if I point it at the ceiling when using it.

I guess I'm returning this one too.

Jumped into the Pronto arena and received my 9400 today. I think I have the washed out screen problem as well so I'm sending this back. It didn't take much to see it. Just accessing the default settings screens to adjust the brightness highlighted the issue. The top line of white text was almost invisible against the background unless you tilted the screen downwards.

Is there a gamma/contrast/picture setting for the display buried somewhere in code or is brightness the only screen adjustment you can make?

One other thing I noticed is that there seems to be a noticeable shimmer in the display when moving it which reminded me of old Trinitron monitor wires. Is this normal behavior?
