There comes a time to look through a 'good' deal and take this for what it is. Its a 'low tech' scheme of an E-bay scam. I personaly don't like thieves, and I am blessed with the ability to 'deal' with these situations. Send them home with broken bones, and they might try to find another line of work!

My husband was taken for 300.00 in Clear Lake near El Dorado. Two guys in a Durango with an invoice, very smooth talkers and believable. Thank god they were only thieves. I am contacting a relative with the Sheriffs dept...anyone with any further information please contact me at [email protected].

Two notices to all you fine people:

1.A van is not a storefront.

2.If it looks too good to be true, it is.

And a question:

How did a fool and his money get together in the first place?
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

What Ernie said. I was presented with "the deal of a century" from a couple of fellas in a white van in a parking lot of a very busy grocery store in Richmond, VA a couple of years back, and all I could do was laugh at them! I told them that A/V integration was what I did for a living, and that what they were hawking was crap and that they were a joke, and as to be expected, they took off and went after some other poor unsuspecting sap.

Oh yes the infamous white van in the parking lot. I was approached just yesterday in Geneva Commons Illionois while performing a work order for my company. They showed me the magazine add and the invoice also. They were also selling some giant standing speakers to along with the home system. I've seen these type before but never get sucked in until today. Fortunately I only paid $150 and went on about my business. It wasn't until later that night I opened the box up and was pleasntly suprised to see real equipment instead of bricks. They do sound good, but we'll see hoe long they last. We Live and Learn and I'm not the only one dumb enough to fall for this scam. But it sounds like a nationwide scam. How do you apply? Where do they get the bullshit magazine? I guess they are just professional bullshit artists. Just don't lose the remote.

Who the hell has the franchise on this?

I have an old blue van right now, and if the franchise cost is not too much, maybe I could get a nice new(er) white van to work out of, and sell some of this crap when the mood strikes me.

I would REALLY want to carry Bose then! My friends at AVAD would finally be able to get me to buy Bose!

Bose would sue your butt faster than you can jump in the van with your ill-gotten gains. That's why they use unknown brand names.

Ironically, just before I started reading this thread, I had an aquaintance call me to suss out 'those speakers sold out of a white van' because a wealthy client of his had just bought some. I second Ernies comments wholeheartedly, how can these people(who buy them that is) be so naive'. Most of us here work damn hard to build a good reputation, part of which is to give good advice, and if I had a customer who was dumb enough to fall for this scam, they would very quickly become an ex-customer. And to 'smamme2' it isn't just a nationwide scam, we cop the same thing here in Australia, only the price is different. Try $800 if your'e a tradesman( they even pull up at building sites) through to over $1100 if they can sweet talk a suit! At a Hi Fi shop I used to work at, we once had a sales call from a 'potential' customer looking to buy a 'high end' pre-power combo for his recently purchased 'audiophile' speakers. Funnily enough, the sale was lost because he didn't appreciate the laughter when he finally admitted buying the speakers out of a white van, further laughter, over the even higher price!
