Contest Entry #21: Seashells From: Rona Wittner For: Philips ProntoPro NG | With this file I wanted to demonstrate the usage of animations. The theme that is chosen is based on the seashore. Four types of shells are used to represent the four devices TV, VCR, DVD and Amp. They are presented right away on the home page.- All devices have their own sea shore background. The buttons on each device are small versions of the shells to get a uniform look and feel. The top bar shows the other devices for quick selection.
- The animations are implemented as macros (in hidden devices) with a series of page jumps. The following animations are included:
- When a shell is selected on the home page this one becomes enlarged on the background. The others move to their place in the top bar. - In a device page press the Home hardkey and the same animation is played backwards. - In a device page select another device from the top bar and this one becomes the center. This is not a separate animation. Instead it just executes the Home macro and then the device selection macro from the home page. - There is a fifth animation, but that one you have to find for yourself! - Background bitmaps are created from photographic material found on the internet and are all non-transparent for optimal display speed. The button bitmaps are created with PaintShop Pro and all contain an alpha mask to generate drop shadows on the background.
- The system page contains custom color bitmaps for the battery display. This cannot be done with the (current) editor. The bitmaps in the pcf (=zip) file are replaced directly.
- Speeding up the animations. On the simulator everything looked fine, but when downloaded on the device the animating speed was not acceptable. And that is the only thing that matters in the end! The following measures speeded it up to run smoothly:
- Remove the delays between the page jumps. The calculation of each frame already takes up enough time! - Reduce the system page to the minimum. For every page that is drawn, first the system page is displayed, even if it is not visible due to the full screen bitmaps. So better not use full screen background bitmaps on the system page but paste them when needed on each individual page. - Replace semitransparent alpha bitmaps where possible by upper-left or nontransparent bitmaps. A big part of the speed was improved by reducing the big semitransparent Pronto icon and making it much smaller and non-transparent.

Contest Entry #22: Chloe From: Tom Molstad For: Philips ProntoPro NG | SECOND PLACE WINNER! Chloe is a device oriented PCF for TV, DVD, VCR, AMP and LIGHTING. The file has a unique colorful 3D interface with transitional animations. Each device has a single page and makes use of the “firm” buttons, which are labelled on the LCD screen. Included is a template page for other devices or to flesh out included devices. All buttons have “delay” placeholders. Try it in the simulator to see the animations! | File: entry-22.zip Size: 926kb Date: 03/11/04 |
Contest Entry #23: Sliding Tabs From: Mitch Mrvos For: Philips ProntoPro NG | My system design is based in a completely custom operating environment with all custom graphics and animation. It was designed for ease of use and to have a high WAF rating. (That’s Wife Appreciation Factor!) It can operate on either device or action based depending on the user’s preference. Device based operation is accessible by simply touching the device banner at the top of the screen and selecting the desired device from the list. Action based operation, including system power, is accessed by pressing the home button. The lower left hard action buttons are direct access to a surround mode and a multi zone page. All page navigation within each device can be accessed with either the side toggle or the 4 screen hard buttons, which have selection feedback to identify each page. All page transitions use a simple morphing animation. I believe that the design’s best feature is that my wife actually uses it to control my bedroom system without my help and with very little explanation of how it works. | File: entry-23.zip Size: 237kb Date: 03/11/04 |
Contest Entry #24: Simple Elegance From: Michael Burwen For: Philips ProntoPro NG | This design was created with specific ergonomic objectives in mind:- Ease-of-vision, particularly by senior citizens. This dictated using relatively large, primary-color icons against a white background. The color scheme was devised by Mr. Gary Hoover, a retired famous movie-industry colorist and graphic artist.
- To provide self-contained instructions. On each page, depressing the owl "professor" icon leads to one or more text instruction pages.
- No more than two screens to operate any single device.
- To use the hard buttons as much as possible.
- K.I.S.S. i.e., pass the "wife" test.
Most of the graphics are original and were created with Paint Shop Pro 8. The instruction screens were created with Photoshop Elements 2.0. | File: entry-24.zip Size: 1.26mb Date: 03/11/04 |
Contest Entry #25: Black Lightning From: David Shaw For: Philips ProntoPro NG | I decided to do something a little different on this PCF! You will find very few buttons that are ovals, circles or rectangles. Each type of button has its own unique shape and shading. Most of the text is on a curve to match its button. Almost every button is semi transparent to some degree using the PNG alpha-transparency. Most buttons have a pressed and released state. The pressed and released buttons are interchangeable, so you could change the color scheme of the PCF by changing these two buttons around. There are sequences of lightning strikes that can be "animated" into your macros, so it looks like a lightning storm when the macro runs. The cursor buttons are both on the screen and the hard buttons. | File: entry-25.zip Size: 1.96mb Date: 03/11/04 |
Contest Entry #26: Tranquil Blue From: Jeff Cooper For: Philips ProntoPro NG | This is my first Pronto configuration. My goal was to replace my MX-1000 with the TSU7000, and add a few things that I could not do on the MX-1000. I set out to create a 100% original art work configuration. I created the buttons using Crystal Buttons, followed up with enhancements using PhotoImpact. I also tinted the system bitmaps blue by replacing the bitmaps in the PCF file, and created pressed bitmaps of all buttons to look like they are lighting up when they are pressed. I created a device bar for my major devices. This can be clicked to jump directly to a device although you have to use your fingernail since it so small. I also created an information screen for the device hard buttons. | File: entry-26.zip Size: 301kb Date: 03/11/04 |
Contest Entry #27: Stoned Aqua From: Adam Bursey For: Philips ProntoPro NG | This layout is an evolution of my TSU3000 layout. It is activity-based and makes heavy use of macros to control my two zones of equipment and home automation. The layout of hard and soft buttons for each device follows a pattern, making it fairly simple to learn to use. There is a help screen for each device. The skin resulted from a hybrid of Aqua-like plastic button and a rough stone background. | File: entry-27.zip Size: 880kb Date: 03/11/04 |
Contest Entry #28: Retro Gold From: André du Fresne For: Philips ProntoPro NG | GRAND PRIZE WINNER! Unlike my TSU6000 CCF, this PCF can be easily modified with only basic knowledge of graphic editors like Photoshop or Paintshop Pro. It makes excessive use of transparent PNG graphics as well as multiple jumps. Thus, there are two simulated joysticks and an antique-style lever for VCR transport, including a record protection latch! The station logos can be replaced within minutes since they are simple bitmpas lying underneath a transparent button frame. Furthermore, there are controls for PVR, tuner, CD, lights and receiver. The welcome screen features animations and a help screen for both users and developers. Play with it and enjoy! | File: entry-28.zip Size: 3.79mb Date: 03/11/04 |
Contest Entry #29: Sea: My Anenome From: Alden Reine For: Philips ProntoPro NG | An all-new design with device specific buttons, backgrounds, and bottom “activity” bars for the four hard buttons at the bottom of the touch screen. I personally prefer pages with as few buttons as possible, so my PCF file reflects this minimalist approach. The way one changes devices in this PCF is by using the “NavMode” hard button at the bottom of the remote. On every page this button will take you to the “Device Overview Template” page, where you can then switch to different devices. I have reworked the majority of the buttons I created for the TSU3000 in color for the TSU7000. I’ve also created several new color buttons as well. “Action buttons” for a variety of activities are included as well as logo “panels” for labeling specific devices from a number of different manufacturers. New color television station buttons are included in the “Surf” section of the Tivo device and the Hughes DSS device. Hope you enjoy my work! Special credit goes to www.DigitalBlasphemy.com for the background anemone images included in my .PCF file. | File: entry-29.zip Size: 3.04mb Date: 03/11/04 |
Contest Entry #30: Make It Work From: Robert Boazman For: Philips ProntoPro NG | This is my first PCF design for the TSU7000. I created this design to accommodate my 6 year old son and my wife. Like most, she doesn't want to learn about all the equipment. As she says, "Just make it work." The design is simple to use and is based on our most frequently used activities. These icons are on almost all pages, DirecTV, TiVo and HDTV icons. Since some of the equipment, like the Yamaha, is new to me, I'll be adding functionality over time. Most pages have a browse back button, even though one is hard coded. Easy access to guides and info. A complete collection of CD cover art provides direct access to any CD. TiVo is used frequently. Buttons are built from stock Liatro buttons. Thanks to Daniel and all the Remote Central forum members and their designs. I borrowed from everyone. Special thanks to Dave D'Arche for the Pronto Wizard Guide. It saved me many hours and he was extremely helpful with my email questions. | File: entry-30.zip Size: 1.20mb Date: 03/11/04 |
Contest Entry #31: Quicksilver From: Adam Bursey For: Philips ProntoPro NG | This layout is an evolution of my TSU3000 layout. It is activity-based and makes heavy use of macros to control my two zones of equipment and home automation. The layout of hard and soft buttons for each device follows a pattern, making it fairly simple to learn to use. There is a help screen for each device. The skin is based a concept of liquid metal. | File: entry-31.zip Size: 594kb Date: 03/11/04 |
Contest Entry #32: Beane Design From: Suzanne Chanesman For: Philips ProntoPro NG | My design is different in that it only includes items that are used by an average user. No need to clutter or confuse. | File: entry-32.zip Size: 472kb Date: 03/11/04 |
Contest Entry #33: Heavy Blue From: Jon Linville For: Philips ProntoPro NG | This is a PCF file that I designed 100%. It contains many devices and has a consistent easy-to-use layout throughout. The system page contains a modified version of the chrome Pronto symbol that is used as a home page button. There are two satellite boxes, each with all available DirecTV channel icons, as well as channel icons for my cable TV channels - located in the TV device. The DVD jukebox contains jackets for over 300 DVDs and allow you to jump directly to that disc. The CD jukebox currently has a sample page with CD jackets, I haven't loaded my changer yet. In the discrete codes section there are macros to get to any of the 400 discs in the DVD jukebox and the 400 discs in the CD jukebox. The file is large, but will download to the remote and simulates very well. The learning curve is very small. Enjoy it! | File: entry-33.zip Size: 6.72mb Date: 03/11/04 |
Contest Entry #34: Envision From: Mike Ventimiglia For: Philips ProntoPro NG | THIRD PLACE WINNER! Envision is a totally new way to look at the Philips Pronto. The first version encompasses a completely overhauled interface to the remote. Rather than stressing on unneeded functions, the minimal technical design makes way for increased aesthetic appeal. The typical TSU7000 interface was removed in a favor of a more user friendly environment. In the future, this design will be enhanced and made available. | File: entry-34.zip Size: 892kb Date: 03/11/04 |
Daniel's Color TSU7000 Layout From: Daniel Tonks For: Philips ProntoPro NG | v1.06 This is it - my personal PCF file for the Philips ProntoPro NG TSU7000 color touchscreen LCD remote control. This completely original and full-screen interface is based on my black-and-white layout for the Pronto NG TSU3000, but is not merely a colorization of that design. In this version I've concentrated on making the layout quicker to navigate (no more home page), easier for others to modify, and far more versatile. Sporting 6 zones with over 42 full device configurations complete with separate code pages with discretes, this setup makes liberal use of hard buttons, a quick main task bar to the left and a sub-task/device bar on top. Also new is a status line with the time, date, battery level and device name, two buttons that can be used for page history or device switching, plus better page numbering. Additional features include Rogers VIP and HDTV digital cable and off-air HDTV television surfing guides for the Toronto, Canada area, an interactive lighting device, hard button help page and my Galaxy NG puzzle game. Included as hidden devices in this file is a gallery which includes over 1000 original graphics that can be used to completely customize this layout to your system and taste. For example, there are 312 different buttons (52 shapes each in 6 colors), over 100 large device icons, over 100 small device icons, 186 Canadian and US television icons, a home page for those who can't live without, plus much more. All elements have been created as PNG files with full alpha channel transparency support, so they'll work over any type of background. Due to this file's size and complexity you absolutely must use the latest version of ProntoProEdit NG.
