I would like to congratulate everyone who entered the Universal Remote Control Inc. MX-3000 Design Contest! Our judges have been slaving away for weeks over a hot remote, determining the best and most creative designs from the plethora of entries. Finally, we can step back and survey the results... and you’ll find them on this page!
But first, before we get to the winners, a little bit about the contest. Everyone was tasked with creating an original color graphical layout in Universal Remote Control Inc.’s MX Editor software package. The Grand Prize winner would be evaluated on many aspects, including originality (how unique the design and graphics are), layout (button placement and ergonomics) and quality (overall “fit and finish” of the file). Second prize winners would be awarded unique recognition for their work, such as categories for “Originality”, “Best Animation”, “Best Use of Sound”, “Funniest” etc.
The goal? $5,000 cash, an MX-3000 color touchscreen remote control, plus the MRF-300 multi-zone basestation for the grand prize winner, total value of $6,198. Ten second place winners each receive an MX-3000 and MRF-300 valued at $1,198 – all prizes provide by Universal Remote Control Inc.!
The submission stage of this contest ran from February 1st, 2005 to May 1st, 2005. The full original contest rules can also be viewed.

Robbie Clark's "Test Patternz" is officially awarded the Grand Prize, but we felt that his trio of entries should be collectively showcased here for their attractive, entertaining and witty nature! The judges all liked his entry #1, "Test Patternz", but several liked #2, "Star Frontier" as well, plus everyone’s children voted for #3, "Bubblez". We think Robbie’s a creative genius! We hope that his daughter enjoys the taste of the MX-3000 as well as her other remotes (and of course her new college fund)!
