Speakers: Well, I finally decided it was time to upgrade my home theater system to include a proper subwoofer. My previous mains had plenty of bass, but I wanted to get even lower. After shopping around I determined I did NOT have the room for a separate box. So, I started looking at new mains with built-in powered subwoofers. I realize you don't get quite the same type of bass, but I literally have no alternative choice. My search ended at a little-known Canadian brand,
Nuance Audio. I decided on a pair of
Spatial Baby Grand 3E speakers, each with dual 10" powered subwoofer drivers. Woah, these things absolutely kick the living daylights out of my previous speakers! At just under six feet tall, though, they're an imposing presence... but acoustically impressive! The next item on the upgrade slate is, of course, the receiver... it's a never ending circle, isn't it? However, I can honestly say that the only reason I would ever go to an actual movie theater is if I absolutely had to see the film on the big screen. The sound, seating, environment and food is better at home. Viva home theater!
DVD review: With that in mind, the first movie I chose to watch on the new system was the recently released Special Edition of The Abyss. Ahhh, so very nice. You can read the full review of one of my favorite underwater flicks and what is possibly Cameron's best overall movie here.

Pronto reboots? If you've been following the Philips Pronto forum for the past few days you'll have seen the sudden rash of new remotes that reboot randomly when the backlight is used. Though as of the writing of this paragraph no actual cause has been determined, it appears to not be firmware related. The problem is currently being looked into, so keep an eye on the forum for latest news or if you have something to contribute.
