New remotes from Universal Remote Control
Although rumors have already been flowing freely on the Home Theater Master chat forum regarding new remotes to be released at CES 2003 (thanks, in part, to information “advanced” by CES themselves for their Innovations Awards), one of our forum members has finally located photographs of the three new models.

First up are the $399.95 MX-600 and $799.95 MX-800 which, according to the limited information available, are RF-capable versions of the MX-500 and MX-700 units (respectively). Since these models look identical to their already-reviewed counterparts, there’s no need to post their photos here.

What’s big news is a brand new color LCD touchscreen model, the MX-3000. This high-end remote also features IR and RF control. Although no further information is available, the model sports a landscape-oriented display, 16 hard buttons and a design that looks really ergonomic. No price was mentioned, but considering the cost of the MX-800 you can expect the MX-3000 to list for well over $1000.

A few other new remotes...
Also shown on the CES 2003 Innovations page are other upcoming remote controls.

In move sure to create brand and model confusion, Proton is releasing a new remote control. The iRemote iR-800 LCD touchscreen controls up to 15 devices and comes complete with docking station.

Another new remote to be released at CES 2003 is a 8-device touchscreen remote from Gemini Industries, the PM8FS. I’ll be sure to post more information on all of these new products as they become available. I know for a fact that there will be other great remote controls to see! CES 2003 is starting to look really interesting...
