Although this full-screen layout is completely new, those of you familiar with my previous ProntoPro and Pronto configurations will probably recognize a number of things. However, this is probably the most complete and customizable file I’ve yet created.

This time around I decided to concentrate on one primary design goal: quick device switching. Thus, at all times my five most used components are just a single click away via small icons at the top of each screen. Less used devices are just two clicks away. A bar along the left side of the screen provides access to other devices, activities (such as television channel surfing), system power control and room lighting. Although the remote can be navigated adequately without a traditional “Home Page”, one is still included.

As the Pronto NG sports many additional hard buttons, my priority was making full use of them. So, menu controls are always located on the menu pad, device pages are always changed with the [Page Up/Down] buttons, and the four hard buttons along the bottom of the screen usually include oft-used functions that are generally not duplicated elsewhere.

Included within this PCF file is a hidden device named “Gallery”. In here you’ll find a large collection of buttons, icons and other bitmaps, most of which are not used anywhere in the main layout. For instance, there are over 80 large device icons ranging from “Air Conditioner” to “XM Radio”, over 70 small device icons, over 120 bitmapped text labels, and dozens of versatile buttons complete with “pressed” states.
